Communicable Disease Exclusion

Written by Christine Gaudreau | Jul 16, 2020 2:40:00 PM

In addition to the voluntary and mandatory personal restrictions being implemented in an effort to "flatten the curve" of COVID-19 infection rates globally, business operations of all kinds have been interrupted. Many are considering the losses they face as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and asking, "will my insurance cover this?"

Without direct physical loss or damage to property, your business may not be covered.

Globally, the reinsurance market is requiring that an explicit communicable disease exclusion be included on facultative and treaty reinsurance agreements, without regard for existing primary policy wordings.

A communicable disease exclusion will be added (some companies have already added this) to all commercial property policies and will automatically apply to new business and renewals. Please note that the introduction of this new exclusion does not change or impact our position on the existing forms with respect to COVID-19.
